Overview

This trip begins early in the morning at around 4:00 AM from your hotel in Port Blair. The head start early in the morning is very much of a mandate as the tour requires permits and the vehicles depart in a convoy formation in the reserve forest enroute Baratang. The journey from Port Blair is through the NH4 and the Andaman Grand Trunk Road as you cross the Ferrargunj and Jirkatang check post. On covering about 40 odd kilometres of reserve forests after the Jirkatang check post you arrive at the Middle Strait Jetty to board a ferry to the Nilambur Jetty, the journey now has entered the Middle Andamans Tehsil. The fibre boats which have a seating capacity of 5-10 people take you to the Limestone Caves from the Nilambur Jetty/Baratang Jetty, which are the natural wonders caused due to the slow drippings of water. The journey through the thick mangrove vegetation by boat takes around 20 odd minutes one way. The limestone caves were created millions of years ago with water eroding the limestone rocks, hence littering and spoiling their integrity is strictly against the law. You can take your time exploring the stalactites and stalagmites formations and witness their shine as water drips through them and then head back on the same fibre boat back to the Baratang jetty to be ferried back to the mainland. You follow the same route to return back to Port Blair in the evening hours.

On this trip the key attraction are the tribal settlements in the Baratang Island as you get to witness the indigenous people of the Jarawa tribe.
